The Golden Girl Rum Club
137 Park Central Square, Springfield, MO
The Pitch At the centrefold of America, where the east meets the west and the north stretches to the south, the Queen City of the Ozarks — Springfield, Missouri — proudly sits. She carries the distinction as the birthplace of Route 66, and her roots on the American frontier are evidenced by the beautifully preserved remnants of a brick city. And today, in the city’s grand old town square lies a tropical paradise — The Golden Girl Rum Club. Here, in the brightly lit space, patrons will find tall ceilings, a jungle wall and endless pineapples; they adorn cabinet knobs and stencilled walls. A neon sign declares an “Endless Summer” inside the bar. Fortunately, it’s a statement of truth. The Golden Girl Rum Club’s abundant and eclectic rum collection is served up in expertly crafted cocktails. The food menu is concise, offering a warm weather palette of elotes, Korean barbecue tacos and ramen. Grab a seat at the bar to admire the back-wall collection of spirits. If you’re rolling with a group, grab a table and kava bowl to share. With vintage surfing footage projected on the wall, soft lighting and a spinning record, the ultra chill vibes make for an oceanside holiday here in the heartland.
What We Love The decor. Or is it the daiquiri? The incredibly skilled bar staff at the Golden Girl Rum Club have curated some killer cocktails and the full bar can suit any palate. On my last visit, I sipped a smoky mescal answer to a Negroni that was out of this world. And the tacos al pastor with seitan are the perfect accompaniment.
Don’t Miss The opportunity to do a rum tasting — it is the bar’s titular spirit, after all. From rich and smooth, spicy to earthy, in dark molasses brown or crystal clear, the knowledgeable bartenders will take you on a Caribbean taste tour, one glass at a time.
